In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was covering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:1-5
Being the first blog post, I wanted to start it with a bang. I wanted to write something that was epic and kept the audience’s attention. Thinking long and hard, I thought the perfect way to start it was with Genesis 1 in the bible. Now I always state on set that I’m trying to be more like God by being a Director of Photography. I capture and manipulate light to create something beautiful. Of course being a Christian, I’d like to be a light to the world and bring light to the world. I actually take a more literal approach and use the combination of light and color to tell stories that will encourage and inspire an audience.
A little bit about me, I was born in New Orleans, La. At fourteen, I was given a Super-VHS camera and told by my father that I was going to go videotape my first wedding and help the family business. Not knowing anything about video, he set up the camera and told me I would be fine. I now have hundreds of wedding videos under my belt and fourteen years later, I’m still doing videos and films. I graduated from The Art Institute of Dallas with an Associates Degree in Applied Science and Video Production. I’ve taken numerous classes and workshops on film and am a lifelong film student. I’m currently focusing on creative visual storytelling. From my humble beginnings to where I am today, I look forward to sharing my experiences in film, educating film students through tutorials, and giving reviews on equipment that I use on a daily basis. The journey in film making is what I appreciate and look forward to taking you on that ride with me to finding the light.
